For parents (or grandparents!) who want to spend time with their student’s class during the school day, signing up as a garden volunteer is a great option! Each classroom visits one of the school’s gardens each week, where volunteers guide students through a prepared curriculum that introduces students to the science and art of making a garden grow. Some classrooms have volunteers that commit to each week, others will create a rotation amongst a larger number of volunteers. Either way, it’s a great opportunity to get to know the students in your child’s class and to share and learn about the natural world.
Volunteers are what make all of our amazing school events and programs possible. With support from board members, committee leads are the people who step up to ensure our events are successful. From organizing volunteers, requesting donations, and planning events, committee leads can bring their creative vision to make our yearly events a reality. To learn more about a committee or join in the planning, don’t hesitate to reach out to the committee chair and make a connection! See current chairs here.
The FSG board is the voting body responsible for overseeing the budget and operation of all Friends of Silver Gate activities. The board consists of voting members representing parents of children at Silver Gate, and requires participation of at least two non-voting advisory members including the Principal and Staff Representative. Elected board members commit to at least one year to be served July 1 - June 30. FSG Bylaws
Classroom parents attend monthly FSG meetings and play a vital role in sharing information about upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and happenings at the school with the other parents in their classrooms.
This is a great role for parents who want to stay informed and involved, but who may not be available during school hours as meetings take place once a month in the evening, and communications can be done electronically through Konstella.
Whether you're a seasoned volunteer or just curious about getting involved, there's a place for you. From classroom support to event help, every role—big or small—adds up to something amazing. When we come together, the work is lighter, the smiles are brighter, and our school community grows stronger.

Each fall, we invite a parent volunteer to coordinate a classroom art project to be auctioned at our biggest fall community event, Harvest Fest. This is a great opportunity to put your creativity to work, engage the students in the joy of art, and to help support FSG!
Each classroom is invited to create a unique and inviting classroom basket for auction during our spring fundraising events, Gator Gala & Auction. With support from the classroom basket lead, the coordinator will guide their parents through selecting and contributing to a themed basket that will be presented to the whole community for auction.
With guidance from the committee lead, the classroom teacher appreciation coordinator will advise parents on planned appreciation events and opportunities, and will typically take the lead in coordinating a class gift for the teacher.
Parent volunteers are the heart and soul of the running club, anyone is welcome to help out in the mornings by gathering the materials, scanning tracking lanyards, or otherwise cheering on the students. FSG financially supports run club by paying for the lap-tracking program Stride Track and providing trophies and prizes for top runners at the end of the year.
